Welcome

The NSRTC is home for the reading and development of new plays from playwrights in the Greater Newburyport area. The plays are cast, directed, rehearsed and staged at the Actors Studio of Newburyport, a fifty seat blackbox theater.

We have a great history and a number of our plays have gone on to full productions. For a list of the plays we have presented, go here.

Call for Submissions: A play development opportunity

For 2010-2011 The North Shore Readers Theater Collaborative invites playwrights to submit plays for us to consider for 2012. We have Reader’s Theater usually the second Saturday of every month, September through June, at 10:00 in the morning at the Actors Studio of Newburyport, a 50 seat blackbox theatre.

The playwright should be seeking input for work on the play, including questions of the audience, the director and the cast. We are a welcoming environment for play development with an astute and enthusiastic audience.

  1. Preference will be given to New England playwrights.
  2. The play should not have been produced.
  3. Run time should be between 60 and 100 minutes.
  4. The Reader’s Theater is a play development opportunity, so playwrights should plan to attend at least one rehearsal and be available at the production for audience feedback.
  5. The play will be presented in a reader’s theater format, with stage directions read.
  6. No musicals or children's theatre.
  7. There is no remuneration for the reading. There are only a suggested donation for admission.

E mail submissions should be included in the body of the email (not as attachments) and they should include contact information, a character breakdown, a synopsis not to exceed half a page and ten pages from the play sent to leslie@pullins.com. Include as the subject: Readers Theatre Submission. If our readers want to see more, we will ask for further material. We look forward to reading your work.
